Member scholarships available

Mary Anne Grimmell Memorial Scholarship Program

MAGRegion 10 has offered this scholarship program for more than 20 years to those members who are pursuing post high school education in memory of former Director, Mary Anne Grimmell.

Three $1,000 scholarships are available to youth and adult members who are planning to or are currently enrolled in any college or training program equivalent to two to four years in length—no matter the major or area of focus.

General criteria for applicants include: Sense of direction in furthering education, financial need, academic records, including attendance, equine background, and leadership.

Those who are currently a member of a Region 10 affiliated club—and have been for two of the previous five years—and who have been residents of the Region 10 area within the previous five years are encouraged to apply by May 1. Mark Larscheidt Memorial Scholarship Program

This scholarship program, offered for Region 10 members who are pursuing post high school education, is in memory of former Region 10 member and trainer Mark Larscheidt who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1999. He was an energetic and charismatic trainer who, along with his parents Tony and Gene Larscheidt, ran the successful Larschedit Training Center in Sussex, Wisc.

One $1,000 scholarship is available to youth and adult members who are planning to or are currently enrolled in any college or training program equivalent to two to four years in length—no matter the major or area of focus.

General criteria for applicants include: Sense of direction in furthering education, financial need, academic records, including attendance, equine background, and leadership.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available from other horse-related organizations, including the following:

  • The Arabian Horse Foundation Scholarships: Arabian Horse Association Youth members are eligible to apply for scholarships awarded on the basis of financial need, academic ability, leadership, and equine involvements for undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited college or university.   • Minnesota Horse Council Scholarships: Each year, the Minnesota Horse Council awards up to 11 scholarships totaling at least $3,000 to deserving applicants. Application deadline is November 1. See the Minnesota Horse Council website for more information.
  • Wisconsin Horse Council Scholarships: The Wisconsin Horse Council awards two scholarships annually—one $2,000 award to a student enrolled in veterinary school, and one award of $1,000 to a student attending a Technical college for an equine-related major.   • Western Saddle Clubs Association: The Western Saddle Club’s Association awards a varied number of and dollar amount of scholarships annually to current WSCA members for use in post-secondary education. Application deadline May 1. See the Western Saddle Club’s Association website for more information. Many Region 10 affiliate clubs, including the Minnesota Arabian Horse Association and the Minnesota Half-Arabian Horse Association are member clubs of WSCA so you may already hold a membership to this club if your Region 10 affiliate club is a member.
  • Markel Insurance Company Scholarship: In 2015 Markel Insurance selected various Regional shows in which they would award scholarship money to youth for competing. See the Registration form and Eligibility rules for this ad hoc scholarship program.
